The palace of Muhammad Ali Pasha (1805-1848), the founder of modern Egypt, combines European design elements and Islamic architecture, making it a great example of Egypt’s multicultural nature. Construction of the palace began in 1808 at the request of Muhammed Ali, who wanted to build a palace far from the citadel of Cairo, the seat of government of Egypt at the time. It was built on the banks of the Nile in the district now known as Shubra Al-Kheima and covers an area of 210,000 m². The palace is commonly known as “Paradise Palace” and “Shubra Palace”
