A trip to the Dakhla Oasis is not complete without a visit to the medieval Ottoman city of Al-Qasr. Al-Qasr is located at the foot of the pink limestone cliffs on the northern edge of the oasis. The architecture of the houses, which enclose the cool narrow streets and alleys despite the summer heat and protect the inhabitants during sandstorms, testifies to the importance the Ottomans attached to securing the remote oasis town.
