The number of Egyptian Jews reached a peak of 80,000 in the first half of the 20th century, an era considered the golden age of Judaism in Egypt. Due to the massive Jewish exodus to Israel in the mid-20th century, this number dropped drastically to only a few hundred today. Nevertheless, a few well- preserved Jewish monuments in major metropolises such as Cairo and Alexandria bear witness to Egypt’s Jewish heritage
