The temple of Kom Ombo is dedicated to Sobek and Horus the Elder and has two identical entrances, hypostyle halls and sanctuaries. The symmetry of the temple complex is a tribute to the mythical connection between the two gods. The temple was built on a rocky outcrop at a bend in the Nile River, where crocodiles gathered in ancient times. The temple is a testament to the importance ancient Egyptian priests placed on natural cycles and the crocodiles of the Nile. Visit the temple to see mummified crocodiles, clay coffins and spectacular reliefs on the walls. You can reach the temple on your way from Luxor to Aswan with a felucca ride or a Nile cruise, or take a day trip from Aswan.
