The Rommel Cave Museum in Marsa Matrouh - Tourism

14 December 2022

This museum is unique because it is located on a peninsula in Marsa Matrouh. The cave originally served as headquarters for German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel’s military operations during World War II, according to the Egyptian Information Service website. Rommel’s cave is located inside a mountain that dates back to the Greco-Roman period. It has the shape of an arch with an entrance and an exit at the end of a cliff overlooking Rommel Beach. In 1977 the cave was established as a museum and thus became a tourist site.
