The National Museum of Alexandria displays more than 1,800 artifacts from prehistoric and Roman times, from the Greco-Roman period and from the Coptic and Islamic eras, all telling the nuances of ancient Egyptian history. It is the only museum that exhibits artifacts recovered underwater, including the most important ones: the black granite statue of Isis and the basalt statue of a high priest of Isis. Also on display are several other marble statues and portraits of Roman gods, including the statue of Venus, the goddess of love, and the bust of Alexander the Great.
