Amidst the hustle and bustle of Cairo, in the Darb Al-Ahmar neighbourhood, lies the very quiet 14th century Mosque of Al-Maridani, which houses an indoor garden with trees and running water where birds play in the heat of the city. The mosque is characterised by a mixture of different architectural styles. Some of its columns are from ancient Egyptian monuments, but Islamic, Christian, Ottoman and even Roman styles can also be found. The mashrabiya screens and wooden ceiling are spectacular, and the stained glass windows are stunning. Sit in the courtyard and relax under the trees and in the beautiful surroundings of this mosque while listening to the call to prayer sounding from the beautiful minarets
