Perfectly located in the heart of Rashid, this museum was originally one of the most important and famous houses in the city. It was the home of the Arab Qilli Hussein Bey, the governor of Rashid during the Ottoman era. It was opened in 1959 as a military museum and reopened in 1986 after its renovation. This three-story museum, built in true Islamic art style, represents the captivating history of Rashid. It displays the possessions of the brave citizens of Rashid who fought against the English and French occupation. It also displays the treaty announcing the withdrawal of the Fraser Expedition from Egypt, signed by Muhammad Ali Pasha. The museum shows everyday life in Rashid during the Ottoman era and highlights the various crafts and industries that existed at the time. Among the objects on display are collections of coins, oil lamps, pottery and pot sieves.
