Siwa Oasis is located between the Libyan border and the Qattara Depression in northwestern Egypt and has been declared a protected area because of its faunal and cultural diversity. Siwa has many lakes and over a thousand springs, but the water is very salty and allows little agriculture except dates, olives and a few vegetables. Siwa is home to the endangered slender-horned gazelle. Typical birds include the turtle dove. During your stay in Siwa, spend your free time observing the surrounding nature. Get in touch with a Bedouin guide, as the locals know best about their oasis. Remember to act responsibly to keep Siwa as beautiful as it is today.
