Daedalus Reef, also known as ‘Abu el-Kizal’, is located 80 km off the coast of Marsa Alam. Its remoteness makes it one of the less visited dive sites in the region and one of the best preserved in terms of reef condition. The area is subject to strong currents, especially in the north. The reef is densely covered with fan corals and soft corals on both the east and west sides. Some fairly large fish can be seen at Abu el-Kizal, including hammerhead sharks, various species of spiny dogfish, tuna, moray eels and dottybacks. The depth of the dive site ranges from 5 to 40 metres, making it suitable for advanced divers, although they will have to cope with the strong currents. Deadalus Reef can be reached with Red Sea liveaboards; the nearest port is Marsa Alam.
