The Great Pyramids of Giza, located just outside of Cairo on the esplanade known as the Giza Plateau, are the must-see landmark of ancient Egypt. Known as the Pyramid of Cheops, it is the largest pyramid in the complex: a truly stunning sight. One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, it is the only one still standing today! When you look at this colossal structure, you can not help but feel like a dwarf. The two smaller – but still huge – pyramids in Giza are those of Khafre and Menkaure. A few steps to the east, you will see three small (20 m high) piles of rubble: the Pyramids of the Queens, the tombs of Cheops’ wives and sisters. Nearby, on the Giza Plateau, you will also find the Great Sphinx and the Solar Boat Museum. This is also the site of the Giza Sound & Light Show and the first time any newcomer to Egypt experiences a camel ride in Giza.
